Introducing Playfic
“Playfic is a community for writing, sharing, and playing interactive fiction games (aka ‘text adventures’) entirely from your browser, using a ‘natural language’-inspired language called Inform 7.” Sports & Games ·
The Perpetual, Invisible Window Into Your Gmail Inbox
It’s funny, I know this is a thing that people do, but it’s never occurred to me to allow any third party to have access to my Gmail. I’ve got no problem OAuth-ing services on my public Twitter account. There’s an implicit line between the stuff for all to see and the stuff that’s just for me, and I guess that’s what guides my decisions when it comes to my personal data. Technobabble ·
Why SOPA and PIPA Must Die
Waxy.org’s Andy Baio on his personal reasons for opposing the web censorship bills. Also: Matt Haughey outlines how they could be used to silence important web resources such as MetaFilter with a chilling story. Current Affairs ·

You can criminalize commonplace activities from law-abiding people, but eventually, something has to give.” I half agree with this; remix culture (fan edits, supercuts, etc) is one thing — and a good thing at that — but the apparent misapprehension of copyright among young people (that it’s just a means of attribution, not of protection of artists’ livelihoods) is another matter entirely. The Video Remix ‘Supercut’ Comes of Age
Andy Baio’s brief history of this web video phenomenon. It’s the kind of creativity that bullshit legislation like SOPA would kill stone dead. Arts & Culture ·
Google Kills Its Other Plus, and How to Bring It Back
I haven’t used it in a long time — I’ve always been a quotes guy — but it does have a very specific application that hasn’t really been substituted here. When Google starts messing up search, that’s not a good sign. Technobabble ·
There’s No Wrong Way to Play Monopoly
I already knew about those ‘original’ rules, and they’re needlessly complicated. Andy is totally right here; the best rules for any game are those that make it most fun for the players. Sports & Games ·
Bill Cosby’s lawyers threaten Waxy.org
But Andy’s having none of it. Fight the good fight! Sound & Screen ·
