Dog ad gives viewers paws for thought
Forget the rubbish about this ad being designed for dogs and answer me this: how did the dogs get the pallet out of the van? And more importantly, why did they drag it all the way over to the opposite cliff? Sound & Screen ·
The Ex and Brass Unbound live in Dublin
Brilliant video of their gig I missed last year. Sound & Screen ·
Raiders of the Lost Archives
A shot-by-shot comparison of Raiders of the Lost Ark with scenes from 30 different adventure films made between 1919-1973 [c/o MetaFilter]. Spielberg the student of cinema paying tribute to his favourites, perhaps? Sound & Screen ·
No Copyright Intended
“Remix culture is the new Prohibition, with massive media companies as the lone voices calling for temperance. You can criminalize commonplace activities from law-abiding people, but eventually, something has to give.” I half agree with this; remix culture (fan edits, supercuts, etc) is one thing — and a good thing at that — but the apparent misapprehension of copyright among young people (that it’s just a means of attribution, not of protection of artists’ livelihoods) is another matter entirely. Science channels explode onto YouTube
I’ve said it before: these are perfect tools for the classroom. I’m the kid who learned more from TV about maths and science (and appreciating them) than I ever did at school. I’m surely not the only one. Science & Nature ·
Every Final Destination Death (1-4)
So you never have to see any of the actual movies. NSFW, or for anyone of a nervous disposition (even though so many of these situations would simply not happen, being physically impossible). Sound & Screen ·
The 100 Greatest Movie Insults of All Time
It goes without saying that this is Not Safe For Work. Sound & Screen ·
The luckiest bastards alive
Some of these look very faked to me. You’ll know which ones I mean. Arts & Culture ·
Jim Henson on Making Muppets
One from the archives here, way back in 1969 at the birth of Sesame Street [c/o Boing Boing]. Arts & Culture ·
Devour: hand-picked videos
Basically YouTube, curated. It would surprise me if the Google boffins aren’t working on something just like this for the site itself. Arts & Culture ·
Mark Steel Lectures on YouTube
They’re only excerpts, but you’ll love them. Why can’t school be like this? [c/o Mind Hacks]. Arts & Culture ·
The Colbert Report analyses Wikipedia
Funny guy, that Colbert. I don’t think the net should be too worried about this — you can see in his eyes that he understands more than what he’s saying. And besides, it raises a fair question that requires debate: What exactly is Wikipedia for, anyway? Arts & Culture ·
Voices of Family Guy
So that’s what they look like! I expect it gets painful after the millionth take, but it seems more fun than most workplaces, that’s for sure [c/o TCAL]. Sound & Screen ·
